Packets: why the internet cuts your message into numbered pieces
When you send a message online, it never travels as one block. The internet cuts it into small packets, each with a label saying where it is going and which piece it is.
Packets can arrive late, out of order, or not at all. Numbering them lets the receiver rebuild the message and ask for any missing piece. Try it yourself with a live packet simulator.
